Girl Scouts

Traer Star-Clipper

Girl Scout Troop 127 of Traer held a Court of Awards and Bridging Ceremony on Tuesday May 12.2009 at Ripley United Church of Christ. Junior Scout members of the troop are Linda Babinat, Claire Dahms, Kieara Faiserlick, Monica Gladson, Taylor Harms, Anna Martinson, Kelsey Pokorny, Emma Shafer, Jessica Ubben, Rian Weida and Sara Young. Andrea Ubben is a Brownie Juliette in the troop.

The Ceremony started with the Presentation of the Colors, Pledge of Allegiance and singing of the national anthem. The Scouts rededicated themselves to the Girl Scout Promise and Law. This part of the ceremony incorporated different flowers and plants with each one representing and symbolizing one of the ten parts of the Law. Each scout placed a flower in a gold pot and told about its representation of the Law. Scout Leader Lesia Ubben presented Andrea Ubben, Jessica Ubben and Sara Young with certificates of achievement for perfect attendance. Also receiving certificates were Monica Gladson, Andrea Ubben and Jessica Ubben as top sellers in the Fall Nut and Candy Sales; and Linda Babinat as top seller of Girl Scout Cookie Sales. Both Sales help the troop raise funds for going to and doing activities and working toward badges. Selling cookies also earns each girl monetary credit towards Girl Scout Camp. There will be seven out of twelve girls going to camp this summer which is really great. During the Bridging portion of the ceremony, Andrea Ubben "flew up" and crossed over to the Junior Scout level. Eight of the eleven attending Juniors crossed the bridge to become Cadets Scouts. "America the Beautiful" was sang and the Colors retired to conclude the ceremony. Refreshments of Girl Scout cookies and lemonade were served to the families who attended.
