Traer Legion Auxiliary

Traer Star-Clipper

On Tuesday, May 19, 6 p.m., a dinner was enjoyed by 19 auxiliary members at the Memorial Builiding in Traer. The dinner was prepared by officers to honor the Gold Star Members. Gold Star Chairman, Evelyn Harrison mentioned Elsie Gates (Gold Star wife) of Ariz. Gold Star sister Audrey Babinat was present and all officers also received a potted geranium.

President Karen Podhajsky conducted the meeting at 7 p.m. with flags in place. Opening prayer was lead by Jean Beenken. The Pledge of Allegiance and Auxiliary preamble were recited. Star Spangled Banner was sung with Sharon Allen at the piano.

Nine officers answered roll call. The secretary read the April minutes that were approved as read.

The treasury report was given and put on audit.

A bill of $25.90 for two dozen poppy cans was presented and approved.

President Podhajsky handed out the new revised standing rules for all. Poppy chairman Arlene Schmidt reported that nine volunteers helped distribute poppies in town. Final report next meeting, two Iowa Veteran Home poppymakers will receive $25.00 each.

Posters of all deceased Legionnaiers will be set up in the Traer Museum windows. This year about nine Legion deceased have been added.

Mayor Russell Drinovsky signed the Poppy Proclamation May 13 thru May 25 as poppy days.

The year end report of activities was given to County President and also sent to the "District Clipper".

Tama County Legion and auxiliary will sponsor an Ice Cream Social and lunch at the Garwin Park Shelterhouse on June 14, from 5 - 7 p.m. Proceeds go to support the 1168 Transportation Co. Iowa National Guard of Marshalltown. The public is invited.

Elizabeth Ledvina, Tama Co. Veterans' Affairs Chairman will be the speaker at the Memorial Services Sunday, May 24 at the Memorial Building starting at 11:30 a.m.

Nora Seda will attend Girls State June 21-26 on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames. Her report will be heard a the July meeting.

Voted to send donations of $25.00 each to the Traer Ambulance, Camp Coureagous, Ronald McDonald and Walk Relay for Life (Cancer) June 12 in Tama.

A joint Legion and Auxilary meeting will be held June 23, at 6:30 p.m. A potluck and flag disposal will be held at the Clutier Post.

Next Unit auxliary meeting is Tuesday, June 16, 7 p.m. at the Traer Library basement. Election of officers and Memorial service for Louise Podhajsky and Loretta Schanabel will take place.

Hostesses are JoAnn Dunlavey and Donna Wolfgram.

America the Beautiful was sang and the meeting was adjourned.
