Serving on a school board is a challenging job that requires leadership, vision and dedication. School board members are locally elected public officials charged with accountability for student learning, determining educational goals, setting policy, overseeing school finances and other duties. A school board member is entrusted with one of the most important responsibilities that can be assigned to a citizen: ensuring that Iowa schools help all students reach high levels of educational achievement. About 2000 men and women serve on local school boards, guiding the education of nearly 480,000 young people at an annual expenditure of more than $4.4 billion.

Starting this year, school board members will be elected to serve four-year terms. Those elected receive no pay. Experienced school board members say that the rewards of service lie in meeting the needs of children and community.

Interested applicants may stop in the Main Office at North Tama School between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to pick up nomination papers. Please use the south lunchroom entrance. Return by July 30th to Terrill Karr in the Main Office and be ready to make a difference in the lives of many!
