Jacksons’ to celebrate 60th wedding anniversary

Wayne and Betty Jane Young Jackson will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on the 15th of August. They were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua on August 15, 1949. Bonnie Axon of Traer and the former Wilfred Johnston of rural Reinbeck were the attendants. The marriage has been blessed with 5 children, 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Wayne worked 38 years for the IBM Corporation in the Field Engineering Division, retiring in 1990. Betty worked at the Ames Montgomery store for several years until its close. Following that she worked at the University Bookstore. Following Wayne's retirement they both worked at the University Bookstore during the "rush" periods.

They were members of the Nevada Whirlers Square Dance Club for 40 years. The couple volunteer at the Mary Greely Medical Center In Ames where Wayne does computer entry work in the volunteer office and Betty makes crutch bags, walker bags, baby bibs and hats for the newborns. Both also help with mailings and make information packets for Homeward clients. Betty also works with The Texas Trails Angels while they are in Texas during the winter. They make and donate baby quilts, blankets and cancer hats and turbans to the local hospitals. Betty is the daughter the late DeVere and Wanda Young and Wayne is the son of the late Robert and Mildred Jackson, both of rural Traer. They have resided in Ames since 1957 and cards can be sent to: 3316 Dartmoor Lane, Ames, Iowa 50014.
