Letters to the Editor

LETTERS

Dear Editor,

I would like to remind people to wear light-colored and/or reflective clothing and to use the sidewalks when walking at night. There are many areas in town that do not have sufficient lighting for someone walking in the street to be safely seen by the driver of an approaching vehicle.

Recently while driving, I was stunned to see a lady, who was walking her dog in the street, suddenly appear within several feet of my car. She seemed to have literally come out of nowhere. She was completely clad in dark clothing and was walking a black dog. What first caught my attention was the dog's reddish-orange leash. Please, think about this before going out for a walk at night. Stay safe by wearing light-colored and/or reflective clothing and walking on the sidewalk whenever possible.

Jeannine Smentek
