Making of “The Call” 

Meet the characters of “The Call”, premiering on December on December 3 at the Traer Theater

With filming completed at the end of September, the process of marketing "The Call" kicked into a higher gear. Remembering that the main purposes of making the movie were to promote our town and to raise money for the Traer's digital upgrade guides those efforts.

Articles and cast photos in the Traer Star Clipper were suggested as a way to inform readers on how a movie is made - from conception to premier. Newspaper ads to be run during the weeks leading up to the premier were designed. A Facebook page "The Call" Red Carpet Movie Premier - was designed by cast member Trish Kennedy. Information was added to the homepage of An informative flyer was added in the monthly utility bill. Posters were designed and distributed not only in Traer but in surrounding communities as well. The cast was spreading the news by word of mouth. Eastern Iowa television and radio stations were sent press releases. The most recent promotion has been the four short video clips of "The Call" that were uploaded to You Tube which can be easily viewed on the Facebook page of Traer, Iowa.

Producing a movie to keep our town movie theater open served as a great fundraising concept for community members to share their ideas for raising the $60,000 needed for the theater's upgrade. Tickets to view our movie will only cost $5. The theater is also offering a special premier weekend package which includes a movie ticket, a DVD of "The Call" and a popcorn combo. Individual copies of the DVD will also be available for purchase at the theater. These would make great holiday gifts for family and friends. Cast member Sandi Anderson's fundraising idea will be seen by anyone who purchases a DVD. Attached to each DVD will be an envelope asking for a donation for the theater. When a friend borrows your DVD, they too can have the opportunity to become a part of this community effort. A primary goal of this project has always been to involve as many residents and businesses as possible. With that in mind, the North Tama High students in Danica Stearns art class were invited to compete to design the artwork for the DVD cover of the movie. A team of volunteers selected the design of Damon Spencer. His artwork will be featured on each DVD as well as the official movie poster. The movie poster itself has become a fundraiser. A poster autographed by the cast and crew will be auctioned after the 6pm showing of the film on December 3.
