Boys track hits rough patch

The 2012 track season has been a rough one for the Redhawks, including a 13th place finish last week. In the meet at Hudson, the team earned 20 total points, but failed to see their performance materialize in a higher finish. The Redhawks placed 13th out of 16 teams.

The highlight of the day was a first place finish in the high jump by Mitchell Boerm. His 6' jump earned the team 10 points and was a full two inches higher than the nearest competitor.

Nick Whannel also had a strong showing in the long jump, finishing fifth. His jump of 18' earned the Redhawks four points.

In the 4X400 Meter Relay, the team eeked out an eighth place finish by running a half second faster than the team nipping at their heels. The boys earned a point with their 3:53.13 effort.

In the 4X800 Meter Relay, the Redhawks improved dramatically, taking home fifth place with a 9:01.06 run, earning four points.

The following day, the Redhawks were back in action at Benton. North Tama finished with a total of 15 points, in a distant ninth and significantly lower than they have earlier in the season. The increased level of competition could be to blame, as Vinton, Grinnell, Williamsburg and eight other teams participated in the meet.

Once again, the high point of the day for North Tama was the High Jump, where Mitchell Boerm took home first place with a jump of 5' 9", earing 10 of the team's 15 total points.

Nick Whannel finished fourth in the Long Jump, racking up four points with his 18' 11.75" leap.

The 4X800 Meter Relay team fought their way to a sixth place finish, clocking in at 9:48.38 and earning the team a point.
