Ramona did volunteer work for a variety of organizations including Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, United Way, and PTA. She was elected president of the Shawnee Mission East PTA but was unable to serve because the home the Schmidts were planning to build in Leawood was in the South district. Ramona was a member of Mission Hills Country Club, The University Club, The Homestead Country Club and the Garden of the Gods Club in Colorado Springs. Ramona and Karl shared an interest in world travel and took many very special trips together through the years. Ramona was a member of Village Presbyterian Church for over fifty years.

The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Village Presbyterian Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. Ramona is survived by Karl F. Schmidt and her children, Barbara Jo Schmidt and Dr. John Brian Schmidt, John's wife, Debbie, and daughter Whitney Jeanne Schmidt all of Gunnison, Colorado.
