Max Morrison, 64, of Traer, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City due to complications from an airplance accident which occurred November 28 near Clutier, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013, from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Traer United Methodist Church. Services will be held on Friday, January 11, at the church at 10 a.m. Masonic Rites will be held at 7 p.m. with burial at Buckingham Cemetery in Traer.
Max Lynn Morrison was born December 20, 1948 in Waterloo, Iowa, son of Duane and Zola (Clough) Morrison. He received his education in country school and later graduated from North Tama High School in 1967. On December 20, 1967 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served his country during the Vietnam War, receiving his honorable discharge on December 7, 1971. On December 27, 1969 he married Linda Forsythe and they later divorced. On December 3, 1983 he was united in marriage to Sue Haltmeyer at the United Methodist Church in Traer. Max and Sue made their home all their married life on a farm northeast of Traer. Max began working at John Deere in Waterloo in October of 1973 and retired on June 30, 2011. Max was an active member of various organizations and was a member of the United Methodist Church, Kubik Finch Post #142, 3rd District Vice Commander of the American Legion, 40/8, Hesperia Lodge # 340 and Order of Eastern Star. After his retirement he volunteered as a driver for the Veterans Affairs. Max enjoyed spending time with his family and babysitting his grandchildren whenever possible. He is survived by his wife Sue, two sons Brian (Beth) Morrison and Mike (Shellie) Morrison all of Traer, six grandchildren Katie, Scott, Tyler, Chase, Larissa and Jessica, four brothers, Jerald (June) Morrison of Oskaloosa, IA, Leland (Deborah) Morrison of Evansdale, IA and Carl (Connie) Morrison of Vinton, IA, and Kevan Morrison of Waterloo, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Larry and Daniel.
