Donald. L. Harmsen, 84, of rural Reinbeck, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at Allen Memorial Hospital of a sudden illness. Visitation will be at Overton Funeral Home in Traer on Friday, March 1, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. with a service at Amity Presbyterian Church in rural Reinbeck on Saturday at 11 a.m. Military rites will be provided by the Traer American Legion with burial at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Buckingham Cemetery.

Donald Lee Harmsen was born January 22, 1929 on a farm near Garwin, Iowa the son of Albert and Luella (Scultz) Harmsen. He attended country school and graduated from Garwin High School in the Class of 1947. He farmed with his father before being drafted into the Army in 1951. He was united in marriage on July 1, 1951 to Janelle Philp and they made their home farming on a farm south of Dinsdale. Donald's death came on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa from a heart condition. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janelle and his brother Lloyd and two great grandson, Scott and Michael. He is survived by his daughter, Vicki (Ron) Small of Indianapolis, Indiana, Gerald (Cheri) Harmsen of Waterloo, Iowa, James (Cecelia) and daughter Nancy Harmsen both of Reinbeck, Iowa, six grandchildren, five step grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 11 step great grandchildren.
