Arlene (Jacobsen) Edwards, 96, passed away on March 14, 2013 in Port Townsend, WA. She was born December 26, 1916 on a farm near Dysart to William and Lillian Schmidt Jacobsen. Arlene graduated from Dysart High School in 1934. She then taught school in Clark Township and Buckingham.
In 1942, Arlene married George F. Edwards, an Army Lt., at Fort Belvoir, VA. The couple also spent time at Fort Lewis, WA during the war. After the war, Arlene and George returned to Iowa, and lived in Waterloo for 20 years, before moving to Sioux City, IA. Arlene's son, George, and daughter, Carol, were born and raised in Waterloo. Arlene and husband, George, first retired to Sarasota, FL, and then spent their last years together in Hot Springs Village, AR.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, and sisters, Joan Dunkelberger and Florence Jacobsen. Arlene is survived by a sister, Helen Smith, in Gainesville, FL, a brother, Glenn Jacobsen of Coralville, IA, her son, George W. Edwards, of Port Hadlock, WA, her daughter, Carol Hammelman of Castle Rock, CO, 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild
Arlene was a member of PEO. She loved to play bridge, dance and golf. Arlene and George were long-time members of Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church, in Hot Springs Village, AR.
