Parents of high school student-athletes who are interested in playing sports at the collegiate level are invited to a free informational clinic sponsored by the Department of Athletics at AIB College of Business. The event is open to anyone who wants to know more about the collegiate student-athlete recruiting process not just AIB prospects.
The clinic called "Recruit My Student-Athlete 101" will run from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at the Activities Center gymnasium on the AIB campus, 2500 Fleur Drive, Des Moines.
Recruitment rules can be tricky, and they vary, depending on whether a college participates in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) or the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). They include extensive academic requirements, eligibility clearinghouse fees, guidelines for contact with recruiters or coaches, "official" and "unofficial" visits, recruiting calendars, procedures for home-schooled or foreign students, amateur and professional status, verbal agreements and signing of National Letters of Intent.
At the clinic, AIB coaches, trainers and admissions executives will join current and former athletes to describe the college recruiting process and respond to specific questions during a Q&A session. A concession stand will be open to provide snacks.
Program topics will include:
The difference between NCAA (Division I, II and III) and NAIA recruiting guidelines
Financial aid information for student-athletes
Scholarship process for student-athletes
