Seven North Tama athletes advanced to the state track meet in Des Moines this past week, competing in a variety of events over a three-day period.
Mitchell Boerm earned sixth place in the high jump after a 6' 2" leap-his personal best for 2013-and was just off the high mark of 6' 4".
On Thursday, the boys 4x800 meter relay team of Omar Martinez, Jacob Watson, Maxim Mogorean and Dalton Hulme finished fifth in the event with a time of 8:25.84, just four hundredths of a second behind the Gladbrook-Reinbeck group. Later in the day, Watson and Hulme teamed up with Boerm and Jacob Wrage for the 4x110 meter shuttle hurdle relay.

Abi Watson, the lone female qualifier for North Tama, finished 13th in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:21.50.
After his sixth-place finish in the high jump on Friday morning, Boerm joined Watson, Hulme and Wrage for the distance medley relay. The Redhawk boys finished 12th with a time of 3:45.93.
On Saturday, it was the Omar Martinez show for North Tama-Martinez qualified in both the 800 and 1600 meter runs. He finished eighth in the 800 with a time of 2:05.19 and 12th in the 1600 at 4:45.86.
