Wolf Creek Players in The Big Five-Oh

The Wolf Creek Players made their inaugural production at the Wolf Creek Player's Theatre in St. Jospeh's building with their presentation of The Big Five-Oh. The production ran May 9-11 and the audience quickly filled up the pews to see another production by the local theater group.

The play is about George Thomas (Anthony John) and the events of a really bad week leading up to his 50th birthday. While stressful for George, the audience gets a big laugh as everything seems to happen at once. His dog gets sick and dies, his lazy son hangs around trying to find a girlfriend, his widowed neighbor insists on carrying around her late husband's ashes, his wife continues to be a terrible cook, and much to his dismay- his daughter decides to marry a Republican, who also happens to drink a few too many to calm his nerves before meeting the parents.

The play was well written, produced, and performed. The cast had the audience rolling in the pews as each portrayed characters made uniquely their own. Zach Kennedy (who played Eric Thomas), Ella Wicks (Sara Donovan), Linda Wiges (Marie Thomas) made inaugural performances. Longtime Wolf Creek Players Anthony John (George Thomas), Alice McGrath (Kathy Walters), Jana Ryan (Julie Thomas), and Brian Winslow (Douglas) returned to the stage for this production while Reda Charmichael and Jim Radatz directed. It also took the hard work of many behind the scenes to make this play come to life.

Playwright Brian Mitchell attended the May 11 performance, which was a special experience for the cast. Mitchell lives in Grinnell, Iowa and works at the Grinnell College bookstore. Following the performance, Mitchell answered questions from the audience.

Congratulations to the cast and crew of The Big Five-Oh on another fabulous performance! We look forward to your next production.
