The girls of the North Tama softball team suffered their first loss of the young season over the weekend, but also ended up with two wins on the day in a tournament at Gladbrook-Reinbeck Saturday.
The ladies fell 7-0 to a Lisbon squad that offered little in the way of easy offensive opportunities, with only one Redhawk, Sarah Howard, recording more than one hit in the contest.
A 13-0 romp over GMG stood in start contrast to the performance against Lisbon. Samantha Zobel and Whitney Pokorny each had three RBI apiece, and Howard drove in a pair. Allison Zobel also had two RBI and a triple in the game.
Emma Knoop pitched a solid game, giving up just two hits and striking out three.
The game against host Gladbrook-Reinbeck needed an extra inning to be decided, and it was North Tama that got the edge with a two-run top of the eighth.
Howard, Courtney Stuart and Anna Kvidera drove in runs for the Redhawks, and freshman Madison Howard pitched a remarkable game, allowing just two hits in her six innings of work while stiking out 10 Rebel batters.
On Monday, the ladies suffered their second loss of the season with a 12-0 defeat at the hands of a superior Don Bosco team.
The Redhawks return to action this Friday with a home game against GMG beginning at 5 p.m.
