Lucile Rose Underwood was born December 30, 1911 on the family farm near Dysart , IA , daughter of Charles and Louise Messer Santman. She received her education at Dysart graduating in 1930. On December 24, 1933 she was united in marriage to Harold Underwood in Vinton , IA , who worked for Standard Oil Company. In 1945 they moved to a farm near Vinton where they farmed for 30 years. In 1976 they moved to a home in Dysart , IA where she continued to live following Harold's death on April 6, 1986. In later years she has resided at the Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer where her death came on Friday, June 7, 2013 at the age of 101 years. Lucile was a member of the United Methodist Church where she served on the lunch committee for many years. She also enjoyed gardening and sewing. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, one son Ron on July 24, 2009, a daughter Jean Underwood on July 13, 2006, two brothers Elmer and Carl Santman. She is survived by a daughter-in-law Blanca Underwood of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and two grandchildren Nick (Annabel) Underwood of Denver, CO and Jeremy Underwood of Atlanta, GA and two great granddaughters Aurelie Nancy Underwood and Sophie Sy Underwood.
