Mary Lou LaSpina was born on February 21, 1938, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Cecilia (Kurth) Caslavka of Traer, Iowa. She was a 1955 graduate of Traer High School and Iowa State University. After graduation she taught high school for two years in Wilton, Iowa. She then took a position with Stouffer Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio. On July 27, 1963, Mary Lou was united in marriage to Sebastian LaSpina at Holy Family Catholic Church in Davenport, Iowa. She then moved to Hamden, Connecticut, when her husband took a football coaching position at Yale University. They later moved to Madison, Connecticut. Mary Lou taught high school for many years in the Hamden area. Upon retirement, she moved to Venice, Florida.
Mary Lou passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at her home in Venice, Florida, after a two-year battle with cancer at the age of 75.
She was an avid sports fan, enjoyed cooking, playing bridge and spending time with friends and her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister. Mary Lou is survived by Seb, her husband of 50 years of Venice, Florida; one son Michael of Trumbull, Connecticut; one daughter Monica of Madison, Connecticut; a brother and four grandchildren.
