Ashley Charmichael joined the throng of runners to compete in the 2014 New York City Marathon. She joined 50,000 other athletes to run the 26.2-mile course on November 2, 2014. Over one million spectators turned out despite cold temperatures, 20 mph headwinds, and wind gusts up to 40 mph.

Dr. Ashley had a good role model. Her dad, who grew up in Dysart, was a runner "back in the day". He completed at least 5 marathons and enjoyed it as much then as Dr. Ashley does now. Dr. Ashley has been running since she was a kid. Her dad, Ron Charmichael, would take her out to practice "the mile" to make sure that she was ready for the Presidential Physical Fitness test. Dr. Ashley continued to run track and started participating in races when she was in college.

Dr. Ashley ran her first marathon in 2006 and has now completed eleven marathon races. Why does she do it? Dr. Ashley says that it's about the feeling of accomplishing something, whether it is 1 mile or 26. Dr. Ashley also feels gratitude for the overwhelming gift that it is to be able to run. She particularly enjoys running because it is great exercise. "All you need is a pair of shoes and you can pick up and go". Dr. Ashley also feels that running gives her a great chance to think about things; most importantly, how grateful she is to be healthy and capable!

What does Dr. Ashley have to say about the New York City Marathon? She thought it was amazing to see the city and to be a part of such an iconic event. "I completed the New York City Marathon thirty years after my dad ran it. That made it really special".

Dr. Ashley says that the highlight of her career thus far has been to qualify for the Boston Marathon in both 2010 and 2013.

When not prepping for a big race, Dr. Ashley's routine work out typically consists of running 3 or more times per week, running from a couple of easy miles to up to 8 or 10 miles to keep her longer distance in check. Her future goals include "to never quit" and to run a race with Dr. Tom Mohr.

Dr. Ashley is employed as a staff dentist at Stone Ridge Dental, P.L.C. in Pleasantville. Dr. Tom Mohr and the entire staff at SRD are exceedingly proud of Dr. Ashley. Her parents are pretty proud of her as well.
