The North Tama boys basketball team (3-4) emerges from winter break looking to build on some positive moments during the early part of the 2014-15 season. A victory Jan. 6 would bring the boys back to .500, but they'll face a tough test in unbeaten Janesville (8-0).

So far this season, senior Paul Kaufmann has continued his progression as a top player in the conference, leading North Tama in scoring, rebounding and assists. Kaufmann is averaging 13.1 points, 8.7 rebounds and four assists per game.

Kaufmann has continued to perfect his game after receiving many accolades in his junior season. He was a 2014 INA Third Team All State honoree, unanimous Iowa Star All Conference South performer, 2014 ICBA Sub State Team member and 2014 Marshalltown Times-Republican All Area Team honoree.

Kaufmann has also benefited from a deeper North Tama team, led by a trio of juniors in Ben Panfil, Logan Zobel and Caden Stuart. Panfil is second on the team with 12.6 points per game and is perhaps the team's most accurate shooter, hitting over 50 percent of his shots from the field.

Stuart, averaging 7.4 points per game, is also the team's second-leading rebounder, grabbing 5.9 boards per game while also distributing the ball well. Stuart averages 3.3 assists per game and leads the team with nine steals.

Logan Zobel, averaging 8.9 points per game, has been a great deep threat for the Redhawks, hitting 44.4 percent of his shots from beyond the arc. Brian Zobel also averages 5.3 points per game and leads the team in blocks. Senior Dylan Clausen averages 3.4 points per game and is third in rebounding at five rebounds a game.

The boys take on Janesville on the road Tuesday, January 6 before returning home from a contest against Waterloo Christian on January 9.
