Lowell H. Paustian, 94

September 4, 2015
Traer Star-Clipper

Lowell Henry Paustian, 94, just six years shy of his desire to live to be a centurion, passed away of natural causes on August 30, 2015, at his grandson's (Dr. David Lowell Paustian) home in Neillsville, Wisconsin, under the loving care of David's wife, Lue.

Lowell was the fourth of five children born to Henry and Ella (Ladehoff) Paustian. He was born in rural Tama County and educated to the eighth grade. His dream of becoming a doctor was derailed in order to take on his father's occupation of a farmer and the family provider when Henry became ill and passed. Lowell lived during the depression and learned many valuable lessons which he imparted to his children. All that knew him thought of him as a good neighbor and an honest friend. Farming and raising livestock became his driving passion. Lowell had a special gift with animals. He held a special relationship with each of his farm dogs. Each of those dogs, which would do anything for him, have been waiting to reunite with him like described in the poem Rainbow Bridge.

Lowell married Lorene Carstensen September 8, 1943, in Marshalltown, Iowa. They made their home south of Gladbrook farming and raising three children. They enjoyed nothing as much as having all the children and grandchildren with them. Lorene was taken on May 28, 1983, after a long battle with cancer. Lowell was always by her side and cared for her in every way.

January 5, 1985, Lowell married Betty (Yuska) Axier in Traer, Iowa. From that time, he made his home in Traer becoming a commuting farmer to his farm near Gladbrook. During those years, he enjoyed stopping for coffee and chat at Goos's Implement which was on his way to and from the farm. He always had a story to tell and many ended in a goodlaugh.

He will be remembered and missed by his wife Betty, his three children: Jerry, Judy (Ron) Dolash, and Joleen (Ron) Jepsen, his eight grandchildren: Dr. David, Annette, Suzefte, Daniel (Fred), Penny, Diana, Lea, and Tammy, eighteen great grandchildren: Andrew, Benjamin, Lucas, Morgan, Logan, Sydney, Dylan, Drew, Cole, Payton, Katelyn, Tanner, Nathan, Audrey, Julia, Taryn, Jadyn, and Claire, and his great great grandson: Laurence. Also, his stepchildren David Axler, Bonnie (John) Kopriva, Duane (Cindy) Axler and their children Matthew, Rachel, Melissa, Michelle, Beau, and Paige will miss his continued support.

In death, he will join his wife Lorene, his parents and his four sisters: Bemeda Thede, Zelda Storjohann, Lorraine Starck, and Darlene Lantz.

It was Lowell's wish to be cremated. A family and friends remembrance will be held on Friday, September 4 from 4 to 6 pm at the North Tama Activity Center, 212 North Main in Traer, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Paustian Medical & Surgical Center, W3657 Maple Rd, Neillsville, Wl 54456-6065. *
