Arlene A. Luze, 95

Arlene Alma Luze was born on March 13, 1920, on the family farm in Benton County, Iowa, the daughter of William and Rosa (Goken) Hupfeld. She grew up in Benton County and went to a one room school house through the 8th grade. Arlene moved to Dysart with her mother when her father passed away. On November 4, 1956, she was united in marriage to Melvin Luze in Dysart. Arlene worked as a telephone operator and was on duty when the system switched to automatic dial. She was also a bookkeeper for her husband's business, Luze Plumbing. Later on in life, Arlene worked at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart. She was very involved with the community, serving as a den mother for the Cub Scouts, volunteering with the Dysart Ambulance, and volunteering with blood drives. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. Arlene died at the age of 95, on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Curtis; a sister, Helen; and a brother, Ralph. Arlene is survived by a daughter, Gayle Luze of Ames; a granddaughter, Meredith Luze of Virginia; and three sisters, Lucille, Marcella, and Inez.
