Logan Zobel scored 18 and Ben Panfil recorded a double-double as the North Tama Redhawks boys basketball team ended a seven-game skid in a 61-37 victory over GMG Jan. 5.
Panfil finished the day with 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Cameron Hoeg chipped in 14 points of his own as the Redhawks used an especially strong second and third quarter stretch to pull away from the Wolverines.
The boys followed the GMG win up with a 63-34 blowout of CAL. Pnafil scored 22 and racked up seven rebounds, and Zobel and Hoeg both scored in double digits with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
The Redhawks (4-8) will hope to translate their home-court advantage into another win this Friday night as they host Riceville (3-8). Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. in Traer.
The North Tama girls also scored back-to-back wins to open the 2016 portion of this year's basketball campaign, beating back a resilient GMG Wolverine squad 38-30 before demolishing CAL 54-11 on Jan. 9.
The ladies (7-6) will also host Riceville (6-7) this Friday with tipoff set for 6:30 p.m.
