Loren H. Luethje, 90, of Gladbrook, Iowa, passed away Friday, February 26, 2016 at Westbrook Acres Nursing Home in Gladbrook. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will take place at the Crystal Cemetery in rural Gladbrook. Loren Henry Luethje was born on January 12, 1926 to Eddie and Laura (Busch) Luethje. He attended country school at Spring Creek #6 and graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1943. He entered the United States Navy in 1943 and was stationed on the Belleau Wood Air Craft Carrier. After returning home, Loren met and married Marjorie Meyer on May 4, 1947 at the Peace United Church of Christ by Reverend Barten. Loren worked for John Deere Tractor Works and was a Gladbrook School bus driver. He was also a custodian at East Brook Apartments and sold Dekalb Seed Corn.

He farmed and loved the good earth in Spring Creep Twp. He thoroughly enjoyed farming and cattle, hogs, and chickens. Loren also enjoyed other activities such as dancing, photography, and the many clubs that he was a part of, and his beloved family. He was a member of the Amvets, the Legion, Farm Bureau, and the Lions Club where he received many high honors, and was secretary for 37 years.

Loren is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Gladbrook; three children, Ralph (Beverly) Luethje of Nevada, IA, Ann Daniel of Gladbrook, and Glenn (Ella) Luethje of Guyton, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Mark, Mary, Kindra (Cody), Joseph (Tanya), Ryan (Lindsey), MaryAnn (Shane), Becky (Chris), and Tony; 12 great grandchildren, Jackson, Adam, Amy, Alison, Abbie, Samantha, Josie, Hayden, Alex, Lily and Lucas; 4 great-great grandchildren, Carter, Brynnan, Zander, and Audrey; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; and one sister, Lorna Ehrig; as well as several brothers and sisters in law. *
