Oren Hoyt, 94 & Gwen Hoyt, 93

Oren C. Hoyt, 94, of La Porte City, died Saturday, April 9, 2016 at La Porte City Specialty Care of natural causes. He was born May 7, 1921 in North Benton County the son of Clark and Sarah (Teller) Hoyt. He married Gwen I. Fehl on May 26, 1945 in Racine, WI; she preceded him in death on January 18, 2016.

Oren served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. He farmed for 24 years, worked at Titus Manufacturing, Doerfer Machine Shop in Cedar Falls and the City of La Porte City. He and his wife Gwen were Charter Members of La Porte City American Lutheran Church; former member/officer of Benton County Dairy Association; Card Club; and bowled in Church League; was a member of VFW and the U.S.S San Diego American Legion Post 207.He and his wife wintered in Texas for 21 years.

Survived by: one daughter, Marilyn (Elmer) Meyer of Dysart; two sons, Jim (Pat) Hoyt of Johnston, David Hoyt of Leicester, NC; six grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Joint Memorials Services for Oren and Gwen: will be held 5:00 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the American Lutheran Church in La Porte City. Family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Inurnment will be held in the West View Cemetery with Military Rites Conducted by the La Porte City American Legion U.S.S. San Diego Post #207.

Gwen Hoyt, 93, of La Porte City, died Monday, January 18, 2016 at La Porte City Specialty Care of natural causes. She was born August 15, 1922 in Mt. Auburn the daughter of Lawrence H. and Ramona (Jenks) Fehl. Her mother died in a tragic fire when she was a few weeks old. She was raised by her paternal grandparents until school aged then her father brought her to Racine, WI where she attended school. Gwen married Oren C. Hoyt on May 26, 1945 in Racine, WI.

She farmed with her husband and also worked as a clerk in several stores downtown La Porte City. She and her husband were Charter Members of La Porte City American Lutheran Church where she was very active in WELCA and the Church Choir. She was a 4H Club Leader, bowled in the Church and Women's League and was active in Card Club. She and her husband wintered in Texas for 21 years.

Survived by: one daughter, Marilyn (Elmer) Meyer of Dysart; two sons, Jim (Pat) Hoyt of Johnston, David Hoyt of Leicester, NC; six grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandson and one brother, Kenneth (Mary Ann) Fehl of Racine, WI.

Preceded in death by: her parents and step mother, Astrid Hansen Fehl.
