Redhawks win home opener
The Redhawk baseball team beat Riceville 4 to 0 on May 26 at J. L. Lister field. North Tama had eight hits in the contest. Joe Earley led the offense stroking a single and a double. Caden Stuart, Cael Kopriva and Lance Zobel each had a single and a RBI. Hale Hulme, Will Earley and Cameron Hoeg each added a single.
Pitcher Caden Stuart took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before it was spoiled by a line drive single to left field. Stuart allowed one hit in the shutout win, walking three and striking out twelve batters. Stuart has not allowed a run in his first nine innings.
NT 9, Clarksville 0
North Tama beat Clarksville 9 to 0 in Traer May 27 to improve their record to 3-0. The Hawks pounded out ten hits including three doubles. Cameron Hoeg hit a single and a double to drive in three runs. Cael Kopriva knocked in two runs on a single and a double. Caden Stuart hit a single and a double, scoring three runs. Joe and Will Earley each hit a single to collect a RBI. Lance Zobel and Tyler Morrison each hit a single and scored a run. Cameron Hoeg earned his second win on the mound. Hoeg dominated the game allowing just two hits. Hoeg walked three and struck out eight.
Redhawks split at Memorial Day tourney
North Tama traveled to Beaman on Memorial Day for a tournament. North Tama was shut out by Twin Cedars 5 to 0. Joe Earley hit a single in the fourth inning to spoil a no- hit bid. Will Earley was the pitcher of record giving up three runs. Earley struck out seven and walked five. Hale Hulme and Joe Earley shared the last two innings on the mound.
The Redhawks won the nightcap 17 to 7 in five innings against GMG. Lance Zobel took the win on the hill. Zobel pitched five innings giving up six earned runs. Zobel allowed seven hits and walked just one batter. North Tama took advantage of 14 walks to cruise to the victory. Cameron Hoeg and Joe Earley each hit a triple and a single. Earley scored four times and Hoeg three times. Will Earley hit two singles and scored twice. Tyler Morrison hit a single to knock in a run.
Janesville 7, NT 4
Janesville beat the Redhawks in Traer on Friday, June 1. The score was 7 to 4. The Redhawks were down 7 to 0 and fought back, but fell short leaving nine men stranded on base. Caden Stuart had some control problems walking six batters allowing six earned runs. Stuart was the pitcher of record. Cameron Hoeg pitched four innings in relief and did not give up a run. Hoeg allowed two hits, two walks and fanned eight batters.
Cameron Hoeg hit a single and a double to drive in a run. Cael Kopriva was 2 for 4 with a double scoring two runs. Lance Zobel hit a RBI single. Will Earley hit a single and scored a run. The loss dropped the Redhawks out of the rankings.
Redhawks Win Kubik-Finch Post Tourney
The Redhawk baseball team took two games to clinch the Kubik-Finch Post championship held in Traer on Saturday June 4. The big news of the day was that the Redhawks knocked off the third ranked team in the state, North Linn by the score of 3-2.
Cameron Hoeg was the star of the game pitching all seven innings giving up just one earned run to get his third win of the season. Hoeg gave up two hits, walked one and stuck out eight. Hoeg helped his cause by hitting two doubles driving in a run and scoring a run. Lead off hitter Caden Stuart hit three line drive singles. Stuart swiped two bases and scored a run. Will Earley added a RBI single. Hale Hulme hit a liner for a base hit.
The Redhawks beat undefeated Iowa Valley by the score of 6-3 to clinch the championship. It took extra innings to get the job done. This is the third extra inning game with Iowa Valley in the past three years. Will Earley had a quality start on the mound pitching 5 1/3 innings. Earley gave up two earned runs on three hits, two walks and struck out six. Caden Stuart bounced back on the hill picking up the win in relief. Stuart gave up a walk and two hits. Stuart struck out all of the possible outs with eight strikeouts. The Hawks pounded out ten hits in the contest. Caden Stuart hit a couple of singles and walked twice to score two runs. Stuart stole three bases. Cameron Hoeg collected three RBI's on two singles and scored two runs. Hale Hulme reached base four times on two free passes and two singles. Cael Kopriva knocked in, what proved to be the winning run, in the top of the eighth inning on a triple to right field. Lance Zobel, Will Earley and Joe Earley each added a base hit to the attack. Cameron Hoeg, Caden Stuart and Will Earley were selected to the all-tournament team.
NT 16, Dunkerton 4
The Redhawks took advantage of 15 free passes to beat Dunkerton on the road on Monday, June 6. The score was 16-4 and ended after the fifth inning by the mercy rule. The Redhawks had ten hits in the game. Cameron Hoeg hit a single, double, triple and drove in four runs. Caden Stuart reached base four times with two walks and two singles. Stuart scored three times and knocked in a run. Cael Kopriva and Joe Earley each hit a single driving in two runs. Freshman Cael Even and eighth grader Ryan Mclean each had their first career varsity hit driving in a run apiece. Hale Hulme added a single. The Redhawks improve their record to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play. Caden Stuart and Cameron Hoeg have been on a terror at the plate recently. Stuart is seven for his last eleven at-bats and Hoeg is eleven for his last sixteen at-bats.
The Hawks will travel a couple hours on Friday, June 10 to play Riceville and will compete in a varsity tournament in Winthrop on Saturday, June 11. The Redhawks will play the second game and the start time will be approximately 11:30AM. The parents of the players will host a barbeque between the Redhawk games. Monday, June 13 North Tama will take on CAL on the road. The contest will be one varsity game only at 5:00PM. The Redhawks return home to play Gladbrook-Reinbeck on Tuesday, June14 it will be JV/ varsity games starting at 5:30PM and GMG Wednesday, June 15 for JV/varsity games starting at 5:00PM.
