Big plays paved the way as the Class A No. 2 Gladbrook-Reinbeck football team got out to a fast start en route to a 42-0 victory against North Tama in Friday's District 5 opener.
The reigning state champions galloped out to a 28-0 lead after the opening quarter and eased to the win from there. Gladbrook-Reinbeck converted two North Tama fumbles into touchdowns in the opening period.
North Tama (1-2, 0-1) finished the night with four turnovers and got outgained 264-128 in total offense by the Rebels, who have now won four-straight in the series.
Tyler Morrison carried 17 times for 72 yards to lead North Tama, but two first-quarter fumbles proved costly in the loss. Cael Kopriva completed 9-of-18 passing attempts for 66 yards, with Nic Sierra hauling in three receptions for 56 yards.
