The North Tama Redhawks earned their second win of the season last Friday night - a good sign for a program that looks to be on the rise.
The Redhawks relied on their ground game, getting 112 yards rushing and three touchdowns from senior quarterback Cael Kopriva in the 34-13 win over Colfax-Mingo. Kopriva also threw for 117 yards and a touchdown.
Sophomore Noah Bond rushed nine times for 88 yards, and Tyler Morrison had 75 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown. Sophomore receiver Hale Hulme had two catches for 65 yards and a touchdown, as well as an interception on the defensive side. Peyton Willenbring had a fumble recovery.
The Redhawks were coming off a 32-20 homecoming loss to Belle Plaine on September 30 - nothing to scoff at considering BP is undefeated. Michael Krienert rushed for 69 yards and one touchdown in that contest.
North Tama (2-4) will take on winless Grand View Christian (0-6) on the road this Friday in what should be a winnable game. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Des Moines.
