Chamber preps for Holiday Happenings

The regular monthly meeting of the Traer Chamber of Commerce was held on 11/7 at the Traer Golf and Country Club. The meeting was called to order by President Sarah Bradley at 5:40pm. Others in attendance were Vice President Ashley Cizek, Secretary Patty Suess, Past President Pat Rishel, and board members Wendy Barnes, Jared Hasselman, Carol Stansbery, and guest Kim Knittel.

A motion by Pat and 2nd by Wendy for approval of October minutes, motion carried.

The treasurers report was handed out and discussed. There being no bills presented, a motion by Jared and 2nd by Pat for approval, motion carried.

The annual dinner is fast approaching next week on 11/17 and was decided to decorate on Thursday afternoon. So far there is approximately 80 reservations for the dinner at this time. Businesses are reminded to bring a check for dues to the dinner as they will be discounted by $ 25.00 for the 2017 year. Boxes or buckets will be handed out at the dinner for the voting of residential and commercial lighting contest as well as the meat give aways.

Holiday Happenings is scheduled for December 2nd and 3rd. Sponsors are being secured for many activities for that weekend. If your business is interested in sponsoring ANY activity, please contact Wendy Barnes, chair person for this event. There will be a special meeting on November 28th at Sunnyside at 5:30 pm for any last minute plans for this family oriented weekend. As usual, a lighted parade will take place on Friday night at 6:30 through Main Street. There will be many open houses at Chamber businesses throughout the weekend. Santa will be coming to town as well and will rest at the Traer Historical Museum both Friday night and Saturday. Trolley rides will take place up through Taylor Park and the shelter house will be open with hot chocolate from 7-8 pm on Friday.

On Saturday there will be a craft show at the Memorial building starting at 9 am. The Lions Bean Soup day will also be there on Saturday.

Pat is working on judges for the lighted parade and there is a traveling trophy for the winner as well as gift certificates for the first three places.

The welcome bags to new home owners have been delivered to TMU for the staff to hand out to new customers. They will let us know when more will be needed.

The next meeting will be at Sunnyside at 5:30 on November 28th and the December get together will be at President Sarah Bradley's home for card signings on December 19th.
