LeMoine Leland Staker, 89, of Tama, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will follow at Crystal Cemetery, rural Gladbrook. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
LeMoine was born on December 23, 1927, in Traer, Iowa, the son of William and Edith (Nessler) Staker.
He graduated from Rhodes High School.
LeMoine served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Alaska.
On September 11, 1951, he was united in marriage to Leila Lena Anna Arp in Garwin, Iowa. LeMoine previously worked at Big Bear and Farm and City in Toledo. He also worked at the Skelly Station in Toledo and was a janitor at the Tama Post Office. LeMoine was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, where he was a former President and Secretary. He was also a member of the Tama American Legion and VFW. LeMoine enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his two children, LeNita (Randy) Smith of Tama, and Loyce (Rhonda) Staker of Toledo; three grandchildren, Shawn (Lindsey Timm) Smith, Bryan (Kelsey) Staker, and Shelby Staker; one great-granddaughter, Lyanna Smith, and expecting a great-grandson in January; two brothers, Roland (Lorraine) Staker of Tama, and Marvin (Verona) Staker of Traer; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Leila on December 8, 2000; one brother; and one sister.
A memorial fund has been established.
