Lillian M. Ruzicka, 85

Lillian Mary Ruzicka was born on May 2, 1931, in rural Vining, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Novak) Shanda. She attended country school near Vining through the 8th grade. On August 19, 1952, Lillian was united in marriage to Edward Ruzicka at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church near Clutier. The couple made their home on a farm near Buckingham, where Lillian lived for 64 years. Edward died on December 31, 2006. Lillian was a farm housewife and enjoyed baking, gardening, site seeing in northeast Iowa, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also raised chickens for over 60 years and was renowned for her angel food cake. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and was a past member of the Rosary Society at Blessing Catholic Church. Lillian died at the age of 85 on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at NorthCrest Specialty Care in Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson in infancy; and a brother-in-law, Edward Babinat. Lillian is survived by two sons, Darrell "Bo" (Reba) Ruzicka of La Porte City and Richard (Chris) Ruzicka of Traer; a daughter, Donna Richardson of Waterloo; a sister, Rose Babinat of Marshalltown; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
