Six members of Tama County 4-H joined other 4-H members from Marshall and Linn Counties in a fun filled day of learning at the Iowa State Capitol, Judicial Building and Science Center of Iowa on March 29th. These members are in 7-8th grade. They began their morning touring the State Capitol. They met with Representatives Dean Fisher and Mark Smith, and Senator Jeff Edler. The 4-H'ers asked many questions including issues on school funding, committees they were part of and bills they were working on. Next the members toured the State Judicial Building, including the Iowa Supreme Courtroom. They spoke with an Iowa Supreme Court Judge on his background in law and how he became a judge. From the capitol, they continued the journey to the Science Center where the members were involved in many hands on activities and watched the IMAX movie "Extreme Weather." The members had a great time and were on their best behavior, making the event a success. The 4-H Program Staff are planning to offer this opportunity next year too! For more information about this trip and other 4-H opportunities, contact the Tama County Extension and Outreach Office at 641-484-2703.
