The NRA Foundation recently awarded the Tama County Young Guns 4-H Club with 6 new air rifles. "We are very excited about the new air rifles", said Eric Keller, the 4-H clubs president, "and pleased that the NRA is making an investment in Tama County's 4-H community." Roy Silhanek, one of the club leaders said , "the Young Guns applied for a grant from the NRA due to increased club enrollment and the need for more equipment. This grant will provide our 4-Hers with an increased opportunity to practice more and further enhance their skills."

The Tama County Young Guns 4-H Club is a county wide club whose goal is to "empower youth to make their personal best better and reach their full potential by working and learning in partnership with a caring adult through a shooting sports related activity." The Tama County Young Guns club provides youth in grades 4 through 12 opportunities (*based on age and developmental levels) to learn the disciplines of Rifle, Air Rifle, Shotgun, Archery, Muzzleloader, and Wildlife Skills. Many members of the Young Guns 4-H club also enjoy exhibiting 4-H livestock and non-livestock projects at the Tama County Fair and Iowa State Fair each year. In addtion, club members are very active helping with a variety of community service projects with a goal to "help make our world a better place."

In appreciation for the grants the Young Guns club received from the NRA Foundation in 2016 and 2017, several 4-H club members volunteered to help out at the March 2017 Friends of the NRA Banquet in Marshalltown, Iowa where funds were raised to support youth shooting sports programs in the future. The Young Guns 4-H Club wishes to thank the Friends of the NRA and the NRA Foundation for their support of Shooting Sports Youth Programs. If you would like to help sponsor youth shooting sports programs in your area, please contact the NRA Foundation at The NRA is a 501 c3 and all donations are tax deductible.
