Cancer survivors, caregivers to be honored at Relay for Life June 3

June 2, 2017
Traer Star-Clipper

Cancer survivors, caregivers, and community members will unite for the annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Tama County in an effort to honor, celebrate, and raise funds and awareness of cancer. The opening ceremony will be at 6:00. There will be 3 walking laps. First lap will be the Survivor Victory Lap for celebration, the second lap will be the Caregivers Lap for all caregivers to join their survivors for an appreciation lap, and the third lap is everyone. Everyone takes a lap to show their support and dedication to helping those who have or are on a cancer journey.

Our survivor speaker will be Walter Brandt. He will share his journey with cancer and how the American Cancer Society helped him.

There will be a silent auction from 5:00 - 7:45 with lots of great items.

Raffle tickets will be for sale with the winner drawn at 8:00.

Concessions will be available starting at 5:00. A band will be entertaining. Bring lawn chairs to enjoy the food, music, and visit with others.

The luminaria and closing ceremony will be at 8:30 to remember loved ones lost to cancer and honor those who have battled cancer.

The Tama County Relay for Life will be at Dysart Park, 602 Sherman St., Dysart, Iowa on Saturday, June 3rd. Fund raising through your relay for life supports efforts to prevent cancer and support for people facing the disease today, and fund cancer research that will help protect future generations in fighting cancer.
