Iowana Club celebrates 80th birthday

June 16, 2017
Traer Star-Clipper

On June 1, the Iowana Club celebrated its 80th birthday with a tea at the North Tama Activity Center. There were 12 members and five past members present.

The meeting was started with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Rose Swanson, president, welcomed all and there were introductions.

Donna Wolfgram and Jean Wellman gave the history of how the club got started. The earliest club was responsible for getting the street signs in town and getting mail delivery to each house. They attended all the civic meetings as well as city council meetings.

In later years, the club has donated to the Christmas lights in the partk, Traer Council of Churches, Chat, Food Bank. Young Life and the North Tama Activity Center. The group has also put books in the library in memory of a deceased member, worked at the North Tama Book Fair, done Sunrise Hill Easter parties and May Day baskets. All of the Iowana Club members have always cared deeply about our community.
