North Tama CSD The Iowa Association of School Boards and North Tama Community School urges Iowans passionate about education to consider running for election to their local school boards. Public schools need strong leadership and governance to ensure a bright future for all children and communities across the state.

Nominations for open seats can be filed between Monday, July 10 and Thursday, August 3, at 5 p.m. School board elections will take place Tuesday, September 12.

The following offices will be on the ballot for the North Tama School Board in September:

District 1-Currently held by Rod Zobel

District 2-Currently held by David Calderwood

District 3-Currently held by Robert Cue

District 4-Currently held by Cheryl Popelka

Strong leadership in each school district is critical to moving education forward in our state. School board members play significant roles in their communities they must have leadership, vision and dedication. These locally elected public officials are charged with accountability for student learning, determining educational goals, setting policy, overseeing school finances and more. Seven North Tama board members govern the education of more than 450 students while overseeing school budget of around $5,000,000.00.

School board members are elected to serve four-year terms, with elections taking place in odd-numbered years. Those elected receive no pay. Experienced school board members say the rewards of service lie in meeting the needs of children and communities.

Nomination papers for school board seats are available from your local school board secretaries. School board candidates must obtain the signatures of at least one percent of the qualified electors of the district or 50 electors, whichever is less, but at least 10 signatures. North Tama school board candidates are required to secure 22 signatures for the 2017 election.

Please see Terrill Karr for nomination papers or if you have a question regarding what district you are in. This is a wonderful opportunity to help the children of North Tama!
