Letter to the Editor: I know I'm voting YES

I attended the public meeting that was hosted by the VOTE YES group and I'm really glad I did. I've known for years that the TMU employees work hard to provide outstanding service for the community. Think of the ice storm in 2007 when we were the envy of the surrounding communities when they were coming to Traer to buy groceries, gas and other items only available here because we had power and they did not. Then Traer was hit by straight line winds in 2012 and a tornado in 2014. We had our power back on in less than 30 minutes and witnessed the guys working hard to clean up tree limbs and debris so power could be restored to homes that had been affected. A gentleman from Alton, Iowa talked at the meeting about how the same crews that provide service for electricity also provide service for the gas utility and they have not had any problems and get the same reliable service for both utilities. TMU will do that too. A question was asked about being charged for having TMU fix a problem for you. I have never had that happen. They do their job and they go on to the next job.

And I have heard about all of the rebates offered by TMU for efficient electrical products and the trees they have given away. And I also heard they will provide rebates on gas products, just like Alliant does now.

We have people in town taking care of us that we know, and know how to contact without calling an 800 number. I like that and think it's a good idea to have these same services for gas as we have now for our electric service. I know I'm voting YES in November. Please join me and support your hometown and neighbors!
