A NO vote November 7 keeps money in your pocket

November 3, 2017
Terry Kouba - Alliant VP of Operations , Traer Star-Clipper

Alliant Energy has proudly served Traer for more than 50 years with reliable service, reasonable rates and an impeccable safety record. Our well-trained gas crew knows Traer's natural gas system better than anyone else. Their combined 130 years of experience helps explain why Alliant Energy has never had a major gas outage in Traer.

As an Alliant Energy customer you've paid less and less each year for this high quality service. I think we can all agree that there isn't a whole lot you've paid for over the last five years where the quality has gone up as the price has gone down.

We want to keep money in Traer too, but we want to keep it in your wallet.

Speaking of prices, there's no guarantee that a municipal gas utility will become a moneymaker for Traer. In 2015, twenty-three of the 52 municipal gas utilities in Iowa spent more money than they made, and 15 of those charge more than Alliant Energy does for natural gas. Homeowners in Alton and Mapleton, the last two towns to municipalize, pay 15% - 40% more than you do for natural gas.

So why switch to a municipal gas utility where you could potentially pay more than you're paying now?

Your vote really counts this November 7, as it is your last chance to vote on this issue. If the community votes yes, it is authorizing the city to move forward with a gas utility without an additional vote of approval from citizens. Please take this final opportunity to vote NO to municipalization and make it clear to the city that you want to keep Alliant Energy's safe and reliable service.

Terry Kouba

Alliant Energy Vice President of Operations
