Vernon E. Dengler, 95, of Dysart, passed away at the Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer on Thursday, December 21, 2017. A service was held at Zion Lutheran Church on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with burial at the Dysart Cemetery.

Vernon Ernest Dengler was born on July 15, 1922, in Dysart, the son of Ernest and Lillian (Jansen) Dengler. Vernon graduated from Dysart High School with the class of 1939. On February 16, 1947, he was united in marriage to Mildred Wilken. Vernon was a farmer and was also a salesman for Pioneer Seed Company. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Traer Lions Club, and the Dysart County Club. He enjoyed playing cards at the country club, fishing trips, dancing, polka music, watching the Cubs and the Cyclones, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ethel (Donald) Petersen; two sisters-in-law, Janice (Bill) Evans and Joan (Earl) Strohecker; and a nephew, Craig Petersen. Vernon is survived by his wife, Mildred of Dysart; a daughter, Marsha Dengler of Waterloo; a son, Mark (Sandy) Dengler of Dysart; three grandchildren, Rachel (Drew) McLaughlin, Derrick (Hannah) Dengler, and Sean (Kim) Dengler; and two great grandchildren, Hayes Vernon Dengler and Bram Cameron McLaughlin.
