On Their Own & OK April 9

March 30, 2018
Traer Star-Clipper

There isn't a magic age at which an individual child is instantly mature enough to stay home by themselves for a limited amount of time. Each child is different.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is providing the program "On Their Own and Okay" on Monday, April 9 at the Traer Public Library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This program is for those in grades 4-6.

Through the program, students will talk about: what to do if someone comes to the door, snacks that they can make themselves, how to handle emergencies, have a boredom plan and more!

By attending this program, we do not say they are ok to be on their own. We are offering information to help parents determine if their child has the skills, maturity and confidence to safely stay home for a limited amount of time.

Cost is $10 which includes lunch, snack and all supplies. To register contact the Tama County Extension Office at 641-484-2703 or jhulme@iastate.edu. Registration deadline is April 4.
