The North Tama boys and girls golf teams stayed home on Friday, April 20 as they hosted Colo-NESCO, Dunkerton and Lisbon at the Traer Golf Course.

For the top four ladies, the familiar course allowed for a team score of 194 to take first overall, with Claire Schafer leading the way with a score of 40 and medaling first. Olivia Schrier followed with a score of 47, Daelyn Powell with 51 and Allie Rund with 56.

The North Tama boys also came away with a strong team score of 166 to place first. Paden Ketter medaled first with a score of 39, followed very closely by Derek Weber with 39, Lance Zobel with 44 and Jack Dostal with 44.

"We played extremely well at home and have started playing like we should be," coach Derek Hopson said. "Having a home meet was great for us. Having a chance to play on our home course gave the kids an opportunity to play on a familiar course and experience success."

Going into this contest, Hopson had hopes his athletes could compete better in the short game, which he felt he saw on Friday.

"They worked hard and responded well," Hopson said. "There is a huge difference in scores from the start of the year until now and most of that comes from reducing strokes close to or on the green."
