Meet your new North Tama teachers

School is back in session with faces both familiar and new to the students and North Tama community. Get to know a little more about these new teachers and what brought them to North Tama.

Hollie Hampton

Hometown: Waterloo

Numbers of years teaching: Entering her first year of teaching.

College and degree: Upper Iowa University, English Education degree.

Classes you'll be teaching: Eighth grade Reading, tenth grade English, Literature and twelfth grade writing courses.

Married/Kids: Single

Hobbies: Reading, watching football and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes

Why North Tama: "I graduated from Waterloo East and was used to a bigger school district. After leaving UNI for the first few years, I wanted a smaller school for myself to learn more about myself. I went through student-teaching at a smaller district and wanted to work at another small district."

Goals for the year: "Just being one-on-one with students, I get a lot more from them."

Rebecca Kenealy

Hometown: Waverly

Numbers of years teaching: One semester

College and degree: Iowa State University, Family Consumer Science Education and Design studies minor.

Classes you'll be teaching: Culinary Arts 1 and 2, FCS exploratory, Housing and Parenting.

Married/Kids: Single

Hobbies: Being outdoors, baking pastries, walking her dog and being with friends.

Why North Tama: "I chose North Tama because I wanted to stay close to where I grew up. I love the small school and I knew this was an area where I had a lot of FCS teachers that would support me."

Goals for the year: "My goals this semester are to start a FCCLA chapter back up and help students find their passion for foods, child development and interior design."

Trevor Larson

Hometown: Jesup

Number of years teaching: Entering his first year

College and degree: Wartburg College, Physical Education and Health

Classes you'll be teaching: 9-12 PE, junior high and high school Health

Married/Kids: Single

Hobbies: Sports, Iowa Hawkeyes

Why North Tama: "I grew up in the area and I wanted to stay in the Cedar Valley area. This seems like a good fit here for me."

Goals for the year: "I want to implement my PE program and curriculum, bring some new things to the PE side students can enjoy. I also want to bring in new activities for Health kids haven't done. There's a bigger push now for health education, and I want to give that education to kids to lead health lives."

Courtney Stuart

Hometown: Buckingham

Number of years teaching: Entering her first year

College and degree: University of Northern Iowa, Early Childhood Education

Classes you'll be teaching: 9-12 PE, junior high and high school Health

Married/Kids: Engaged to Clayton Green to be wed in June of 2019

Hobbies: Spending quality time with family and friends, being out on the lake tubing or fishing, softball

Why North Tama: "I am very excited and honored to start my career teaching and what better way to start then at your hometown school! It is a wonderful school district in a great community. "

Goals for the year: "As this is my first year of teaching, I hope to create a classroom environment that promotes respect and inclusion. In order to do this, I will communicate with my students and their caregivers the expectations of our classroom, as well as, coach students through the various strategies for effective communication with their peers. It is important, as an early childhood educator, to reflect and revise on my own teaching strategies, as the students and I learn and grow together."
