Lester Wesley Sevcik

Lester "Les" Sevcik was born March 29, 1927, in Clutier, Iowa, son of Joseph and Mary (Podhajsky) Sevcik. He was raised and attended school in Clutier and Elberon graduating with the Elberon High School Class of 1944. Les entered the United States Navy during World War II, proudly serving immediately after his graduation. Following an honorable discharge, he returned to Traer and was united in marriage to Sally Short at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waterloo on August 4th, 1956. Les was an employee at Cherveny Implement and, in 1965, became a partner in Traer Implement. He was a member of the Kubik Finch Post of the American Legion and an active member at St. Paul Catholic Church having served on the building committee for its current location. Les enjoyed cooking, especially making a variety of soups and bread. He also cherished spending time with his family and friends.

Les passed away at the age of 91 years on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at the Sunrise Hill Care Center of Traer. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Vera Vlasak, William Sevcik, Blanche Rebik, Eleanor Kopriva, Joseph Sevcik (in infancy), Dorothy Parizek, Mildred Calkins, and Evelyn Esch; and an infant son, Andrew. Les is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sally; his son, Gregory Sevcik of Traer; daughter, Margaret (David) Dedic of Mason City; a granddaughter, Chloe (Burton Hable) Dedic of Charlottesville, VA; two grandsons: Joseph Dedic of Mason City and Jack Dedic of Cedar Falls; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
