More than 70 winter clothing items including coats, gloves, boots and hats were donated to area children in need of warm clothes this season through Sunnyside Tavern and Cafe's firstever Kids Winter Clothing Drive on Saturday, Dec. 8.

Patrons were encouraged to bring a clothing items to the bar on Saturday night and could redeem these donations for a free drink. Jay Douglas, owner of Sunnyside, also encouraged anyone coming out to put on their ugliest sweaters for a fun night for a good cause.

"This just came out of the blue a few days before we hosted the drive," Douglas said. "This was about doing the right things and help these kids. It's cold outside, they need these items this winter."

Though Douglas admitted the idea was quite sudden, he was happy with the turnout for the drive this year and will do it again next year.

"Everyone thought this was great and it brought people in for our staff," Douglas said. "It was good to see them get into this too."
