Bruce Stammer

April 4, 2019
Traer Star-Clipper

Bruce William Stammer was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, on January 15, 1951, son of Lester and Beatrice (Robinson) Stammer. He was raised in Traer and graduated with the North Tama Class of 1971. Following graduation, Bruce was drafted into the United States Army where he was trained as a sharpshooter and served in Korea. In 1973, he received an honorable discharge and returned to Traer where he was introduced to Kathy Kroeger by her sister, Marlene. After a short courtship, the two were married on February 23, 1974, at the Methodist Church in Toledo. Bruce and Kathy settled into their home in Traer where they raised their three children; Dusty, Amanda & Rachael, and enjoyed spoiling their three grandchildren; Clowey, Brendon & Isabele. He worked for John Deere for 34 years before retiring on February 28, 2008. Bruce, then, went to work for Pioneer Seed in Reinbeck sorting corn and loving the company of his coworkers. Bruce was a proud member of the Traer American Legion where he served on the honor guard and distributed Cheer boxes at Christmas. He enjoyed grilling, gardening (growing HOT peppers) but most of all golf. Bruce loved the Hawkeyes and the Steelers. People were his passion and he never met a stranger no matter where he travelled. He was a dedicated, hard-working man who spoke his mind in an honest, unfiltered, yet, charming way.

Bruce passed away at home on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at the age of 68 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Jean. Bruce is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathy; his children: Dusty (Yvonne) Stammer of Evansdale, Amanda Stammer of Traer, and Rachael Stammer of Waterloo; three grandchildren: Clowey, Brendon and Isabele; his sisters, Sarah Stock of Texas, Henri (Kenny) Tharp of Vinton and Linn (Mike) Neal of Reinbeck; and his faithful and beloved dog, Daphne.
